The superiority of a timber structure over concrete is obvious: a smaller footprint, lower cost and greater strength. The benefits are similarly obvious in use: since the facades are protected by extensive eaves, maintenance is reduced to a minimum. A landscaped stairway follows the slope to access the house from below. How do you reconcile a steeply sloping site with a magnificent view of Talloires bay from above? The answer is obvious: a building on stilts, which clings to the slope with all the strength of its timber anchoring.
